Why: Because you need to hear “the rest of the story” that our news
media don’t tell us.
Most of the news we get about the Middle East comes with a one-sided Israeli slant. Kamal Hassan of Grant Pass, a Palestinian refugee at birth, will provide a Medford audience with the Palestinian reality at a free dinner, lecture and film at 6:30 pm Friday, July 11th, in Lidgate Hall at the Medford Congregational United Church of Christ, 1801 E. Jackson St. Citizens for Peace & Justice of Medford is sponsoring Hassan’s presentation and members will be providing a free dinner and soft drinks for all those who attend. Hassan, 58, was born in exile in Lebanon to parents who had to flee their native Haifa after Israel was formed by force of war in 1948. He was educated in a trade school administered by the United Nations and won a scholarship to a university in Stuttgart, Germany, which he never got to attend because Israel invaded Lebanon in 1967 throwing his life into turmoil. Eventually, Hassan immigrated to the United States, settling first in San Francisco and later moving to Grants Pass in the early 1970s. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Rogue Community College and has worked steadily since then and helped to raise three children. He currently works for Field’s Home Center in Grants Pass and dedicates his off-duty hours to giving talks to students and adults on the Palestinian side of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. He is resolute in his stance for a non-violent resolution to the conflict while understanding why the Palestinians often resort to violence. Please spread the word. Like Paul Harvey used to say, we need to hear “the rest of the story.”
