Tax Day Tea Party

Pogo, 16.04.2009 02:52

On April 15, 2009, hundreds gathered in Medford Oregon to rally in opposition to federal tax codes and bailouts that enrich the wealthy elite and impoverish the middle class. This astroturf event does have a strong following and only time will tell if this will lead to positive change.

It was not a bad experience. There was ALOT of Obama bashing, liberal bashing etc..Radio talk-show host Bill Meyer declares "don't be fooled" that this is a non-partisan event... "There is those that believe in the Constitution and there is all the rest!" There were calls that "Enough Is Enough" and "No More Taxes, No More Debt". I was surprised there was no police around during the march and only a few at the rally. The march was very poorly organized, there were no crossing guards and very little organization among the "mob" and it was fortunate no one was hurt. Once we got to the Court House the "grassroot" organizers worked up the crowd but in the end they offered very few solutions. "You always kinda knew this day was going to come..." declared Meyer. The only call to actions I heard were "Repeal 16th Amendment" (wont happen) and "Vote for Republicans" which the crowd was not entirely buying... "Ultimately the beast must be starved!" lamented Meyer. There was a sense of empowerment among the crowd, it seemed most had never been to a rally like this before. As a photographer I was met with positive response though I was asked if I was a member of Homeland Security many times.

Safety...
16.04.2009 - 21:14
Where were the Medford police? I witnessed a near accident involving two cars due to people not paying attention and walking into traffic. I understand that Greg Lemhouse was right in that group on the corner, but he was not paying any attention to crowd control and/or crosswalk safety. That part of things was very poorly organized. Luckily nobody was hurt this time.

Obviously the Tax Day protesters were not respectfull of the law, their fellow citizens in motor vehicles, or private property. They were such angry, violent, radicals, they put these RNC protesters to shame. Did you see the tax day protesters who were wearing gas masks and hankies as they charged the court house?! Now that was a spectacle! You should have seen it!
