On Thursday, December 17, 2009, members of the Eagle Point Education Association will gather at 6:30pm at the District 9 Board Meeting (in the Eagle Point High School Cafeteria) to protest the newest contract proposal offered by the District. The two sides have been back in contract negotiations for several months, after narrowly averting a strike last spring.

The members of the EPEA were shocked when they received notice that the Administration was planning to contract out their Food Service Managers to Sodexo as of January 1, 2010. Some of these employees have over 30 years with the District and as a result, will face increased health care costs, loss of PERS, loss of sick leave, and uncertain futures--as their contracts may only extend until the end of the school year. Outraged employees will gather together to protest the unfair contract proposal, claiming that the District is targeting the classified employees in this wall-to-wall Association and setting a dangerous precedent for others in the district. Several members will speak during the community forum, encouraging the Board Members to STOP the privatization of these loyal, caring, and responsible employees. Their work supports our children and our community.

The Eagle Point Education Association represents over 380 employees of District 9 including teachers, educational assistants, secretaries, bus drivers and custodians.
