"Take Back the Night" March through Ashland

Sunday January 10th here in Ashland a "Take Back the Night" march and candlelight vigil took place. There were 75-100 women, men and children in the march which started out at Triangle Park and made it's way down Siskiyou to the Downtown Plaza.

As the march made it's way along the sidewalk on Siskiyou and through downtown you could hear people chanting "People Unite, take back the night!" and "Hey Hey, Ho Ho ..sexual assault has gotta go!". Once the march made it's way down to the plaza a circle formed and some of the people from the crowd spoke up about how they were feeling about what has been happening in Ashland.

What do we want? Safe Streets! When do we want them? NOW!

Taking the streets back! 11.01.2010 - 16:59 I didn't count (way too many people there to even try) but the plaza was so packed that I would estimate there were a couple hundred people there at the end of the walk. It was uplifting to see that kind of turn out and to see that many people stand together in solidarity. The message is clear... we will not tolerate violence in Ashland! We are strong!
