With The Intent To Learn
22.03.2010 - 07:30
Hello!

I hope we will, as a community of humans being for Peace, keep approaching each other, especially people we don't know, with the intent to learn something about ourselves and them.

Very often we set about to convince others that what we believe is the only right course or perspective. This disallows common ground to blossom between one another, and hastens contention rather than dialogue.

Here's the only tough part, really. If, let's say, a Ron Paul supporter and anti-tax constitutionalist claims something you think wild that you don't like, but they are against the war, then the tough part is allowing them to have this or some other belief(s) with which you may never agree, yet move forward together with them as Peace advocates.

To some, that may sound easy. For most of us, certainly for me it is a substantial effort, but one that I feel I have no choice but to take if I truly support Peace and complete non-violence. I must also apply the benefit of the doubt liberally at all times to move forward and not backwards.

This does not mean there aren't lines we won't cross. But if we find a majority of our perspectives to be not reviewable and not getting the preventive maintenance and updated study that common sense require, then we are fundamentally stuck in one spot. This will not only fail to transform ourselves and others, but actually alienates them from us. Perhaps it alienates us from who we really are, as well.

With extremely little exception globally, we are all magnificent and have an equal right to be here, just as we are. And unlike your friends and those with whom you agree, our worldly neighbors with alternate perspectives from ours can help us gain in the most precious values available to humans, such as kindness, compassion, patience, tolerance and understanding. Our friends can't provide us with these very priceless opportunities! :-)

Earth is everyone's special classroom: theirs, yours, and ours.

Video of Demos includes Medford
24.03.2010 - 04:43
Andrew Lehman with the Peace, Justice and Environment Project put together a video showing 7th Anniversary War demonstrations that took place around the country. It includes a couple photos from Medford, although one is tagged as "Madison, WI" Another minor mistake is they left us off the list of cities at the end, however all & all I think Andrew did a great job and it is good to see his work. Thank you, Andrew!
