Wobbly Walk Through the Siskiyous
Professor Jay Mullen
June 9, 12:00 Noon
Ashland branch Jackson County Library System

Come hear Professor Mullen's research, the story of brave men of conviction whose solidarity stand for free speech is absolutely amazing and it needs to be remembered. Once you know the history you will understand why a blue ribbon committee has been assembled to commemorate the 1911 Wobbly Walk Through the Siskiyous. With the establishment of a Wobbly Free Speech Monument in the region of the Siskiyous Mountains we shall not forget these brave men nor their principles. The Wobbly Walk for Free Speech is certainly as important today as it was a century ago.

Here is a teaser. The words come from Jay Mullen's written research documenting the miraculous events which unfolded nearly 100 years ago:

This nation often esteems those who hazard their lives to promote and secure its liberty. Monuments often celebrate those offering their last full measure of devotion, including conscripts and bounty-induced volunteers, as well as volunteers motivated by conviction. Perhaps a monument should be raised... ...to those men of conviction who voluntarily, for the cause of free speech, hit-the-grits and disappeared into the snowfall to confront possible death, not in the face of hostile gunfire, but in the face of an indifferent nature's blizzard.

History forgets more heroes than it remembers. Those Wobblies warrant memory.

The Wobbly Walk Free Speech Monument is a campaign of Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice.

WATCH FOR WEDNESDAY'S PRESS RELEASE and COME HEAR PROFESSOR MULLEN'S NOON LECTURE.
