Southern Oregon's MOVE YOUR MONEY campaign debuted on the main drag during Ashland's Fourth of July parade. The parade entry from Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice (SOJwJ) included the Jefferson State Rollers. The helpful swarm of female roller derby skaters blasted Ashland with thousands of tri-fold Move Your Money brochures which rank regional banks and credit unions with the big Wall Street banks. Any guess which work best for the local economy?
People want to support local economic development and are tired of Wall Street excesses that have crippled our country. Move Your Money is a campaign to move money away from the big greedy Wall Street Banks and put the bucks where they will do the most good right here at home.

Grants Pass, Oregon - Memorial Day, 2010
Congratulations, Hal, Jim, Loree and all who worked so hard to put together our Veterans for Peace, Rogue Valley Chapter 156, entry in today's massive Boatnik parade in Grants Pass. The huge Peace Dove with the olive branch in her beak was gorgeous and impressive. It's difficult to believe how big this parade is -- our group was lucky to go down the street early and by the time we walked back to where we started, more than an hour later, there were still many groups waiting to start their journey.

Today legal history was made at North Medford High School, the venue where the Oregon Supreme Court heard the appeal of Medford Citizens for Responsible Development (MCRD), following their grant of the writ of certiorari. On the average, our high court decides to hear about five percent of the cases it is asked to hear on appeal, so it is a victory for MCRG just to be granted an Oregon Supreme Court hearing.

The welcome came from American Society of University Women (AAUW) as the all-women crew (see photos) met us at the door with an invitation for some education and fun. We entered and found a packed house and an atmosphere that felt down-home friendly.

Channel 12 mistakenly put together their story saying that our "Tax Wall Street to fund jobs" message and our "bank locally" message were the same for all the tea bagger gatherings in southern Oregon. One of the superintendents came out of the Ashland Post Office to inform us that unless we stayed off US Post Office property he would call the US Postal Inspectors to arrest us. I asked him if the Post Office was not public property, and he said that it is not in Ashland, since they lease the property from the private sector.--Ivend Holen

In 2009 our national political process descended into chaos with partisan accusations, blaming and an absolute lack of willingness on the part of elected leaders to behave like those representative of our democracy. One side refused to fulfill their contracts as elected government officials salaried by taxpayers. They held up the works on what would have, in normal times been mostly small issues. They forgot they don’t get paid by a single portion of the electorate to carry out some one sided agenda. They get paid by all of us to facilitate forward momentum by focusing on legislation addressing issues critical to all of us at this time in our history. They have however, done a great job of campaigning.

For 30 years, corporate CEOs and Wall Street speculators have put the squeeze on workers with globalization, privatization and union-busting.
They used their rising profits to buy Congress, convincing them to hand out tax breaks to the rich and gut banking regulations and consumer protections. Then they invented unscrupulous mortgage and investing practices, turning our financial system into a casino. When their speculation didn't pay off, they got Congress to bail them out to the tune of $15,000 for every household in America.
A tax on the speculators of the Wall Street casino could put 3 million people to work fixing our infrastructure, teaching our children, making our factories sustainable and improving our public services.
