Close loophole for banks and insurers-HB 3615

YES on HB 3615 -- Protection from predatory lending and unfair insurance practices
In Oregon, if you buy a car and drive away with a lemon you're protected.
If the appliance dealer sells you a refrigerator that never works you're protected.
But, if your bank sells you a deceptive loan forget it, there's no protection under the UTPA.
Join us in telling lawmakers we need better protections for all of us living on Main Street not Wall Street.
HB 3615 will finally close the gap by adding a few simple words "loans, extension of credit and insurance" to the definition of goods and services covered by the UTPA. That's it!

Healthcare NOW! - Time to Start from Scratch
January 27, 2010 by Healthcare-NOW!, 28-01-2010 - 04:31
Southern Oregonians are pleased with the leadership of Healthcare NOW! Great to see this breath of fresh air at a time when the pit of reform is such a dramatic disaster--rogue imc vol..
We've heard President Obama assert during his campaign that if he were starting from scratch he would implement a single-payer plan. He recently stated: "I want to cover everybody. Now, the truth is unless you have what's called a single-payer system in which everyone's automatically covered, you're probably not going to reach every single individual." In addition, President Obama knows that we have to get the spiraling healthcare costs under control.
The current bills before the House and Senate can neither cover everyone nor make healthcare affordable. Only Improved Medicare for All, a national single payer plan such as HR 676, can do the job.

I Will Continue To Fight For Single-Payer

I Will Continue To Fight For Single-Payer
This message from Congressman Dennis Kucinich is a godsend for Southern Oregonians who have been fighting for Single Payer health care reform! It has been nerve racking to watch activists who have been tricked into supporting insurance companies and the greedy healthcare (non)system. What a HUGE waste of time, money, and energy! HCAN in particular has sold out the working class with a campaign based on lies and deception. Now we can only hope for one thing to happen in Washington DC. We need nothing short of a quick death to the current corporate sponsored healthcare reform, RIP.
"We stand with Dennis Kucinich. We will keep on working and do whatever it takes to bring about the change that sends insurance companies packing. Let them insure cars and houses but keep them the hell away from our bodies and our health!"--Wes Brain, Rogue Valley Single Payer activist.

Tax Fairness Protest @ US Bank in Ashland, OR
YES ON MEASURES 66 & 67, 21-01-2010 - 16:51
January 19, 2010- Oregonians marched on US Bank in Ashland to protest the bank's disrespect for its unemployed customers. For the bank its nothing but greedy profit that drives its huge contributions to the NO on Measures 66 & 67 campaign. At the same time they spend big bucks to defeat these measures the US Bank gets money and unemployed customers because it has a contract with the State of Oregon to automatically receive unemployment compensation bucks from people who have been laid off from work. The bank actually stands to gain as unemployed ranks swell.
Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice organized this action. Protesters included 42 WRAP travelers mainly from Portland on their way to San Francisco for a west coast convergence calling attention to the national travesty of homelessness. Most of the travelers are without homes or jobs so the protest at the bank has direct implications for them. The WRAP travelers were joined by Southern Oregonians and the crowd of over 60 presented over 1000 names on a petition calling on US Bank to stop abusing its unemployed customers. Passing measures 66 and 67 will help the most effected in this recession.
The demonstration took place during a wind and rain storm. Protesters chanted loudly: "We got sold out. Banks got bailed out." A bank manager refused to accept the petitions so they were taped to the teller window.

Demand US Bank stop hurting the unemployed
* TAX * F A I R N E S S * N O W ! *, 13-01-2010 - 19:12
OREGON'S UNEMPLOYED DESERVE A BREAK
Holding an incredibly powerful position to exploit unemployed Oregonians US Bank has spent big bucks to defeat measures 66 and 67 in the current January 26, 2010 election.
US Bank is the largest bank in Oregon. It is also the issuer of the ReliaCard, a "prepaid Visa" card through which out-of-work Oregonians receive their unemployment benefits. As a result, hundreds of thousands of US Bank's unemployed customers would get a tax cut if Oregonians vote YES for tax fairness. However, US Bank is opposing these efforts. It is simple - if the big banks win, out of work Oregonians will lose.
This issue is further explained by Tax Fairness Oregon. Go to their website and get the details and SIGN THE PETITION demanding the US Bank stop hurting its unemployed customers.

Senate Speech Heralds New Social Movement

If you do only one more political thing this year as we put 2009 to bed--RIP, let it be to listen to Bernie Sanders on the floor of the United States Senate speak about Health Care Reform which boots out corporate greed! Sanders speech is being heralded the "New Social Movement" and this couldn't come at a better time...
For 2009 reflect for just a minute on all the garbage we have been subjected to pertaining to Health Care Reform and realize that from the start the campaign has been designed by the corporate greedy who literally buy reform that makes them lots & lots more money. Profit over people wins again. The campaign for healthcare reform loses, but out of it we have the "New Social Movement"
So let us do put 2009 to bed and permanently behind us. It has been a horrible year, however we deserve to end it on a high note. We need this. If you do only one more political thing this year listen to Bernie Sanders uplifting speech describing a wonderful vision for 2010. Not a campaign, a movement!--In solidarity, Wes Brain, Chair, Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice, CARRY ON!

U.S. Chamber of Commerce Elected 2009's National Scrooge of the Year
J O B S * W I T H * J U S T I C E, 21-12-2009 - 21:54
DECEMBER 21, 2009--Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice (SOJwJ) announces: U.S. Chamber of Commerce Elected 2009's National Scrooge of the Year.
The Chamber's narrow, radical agenda advocating for anti-worker, profit-focused solutions to the broken health care, labor, and environmental systems garnered them the most votes for the national Jobs with Justice "Scrooge of the Year" award.
Southern Oregon has been alarmed at local Chambers of Commerces with First Amendment violations waged by the City of Ashland's Chamber after its sponsorship of the 2007 Fourth of July Parade. In 2008 SOJwJ and ACLU of Southern Oregon gave the Ashland Chamber of Commerce a Free Speech lesson
http://www.rogueimc.org/en/2008/07/13203.shtml
This year's Scrooge contest pitted the Chamber of Commerce against Bank of America, nominated for their role in the sub-prime lending crisis and failure to extend credit to small businesses. SOJwJ previously shouted out a patriotic warning about BoA on Dec. 12, 2008 with the People's Bail-Out Rally in Medford, Oregon

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MEASURES 66 & 67
P E T E R * B U C K L E Y - intro by RIMC vol, 12-12-2009 - 21:42
Peter Buckley, Oregon State Representative District 5, has always reported to his constituents and he keeps an open door to hear the needs and concerns of ordinary people, not just the ones with the big bucks. In this report Peter lays out FACTS about Measures 66 & 67. With a vote coming later in January it is incredible some of the lies coming from the corporate right.
Nearly a million households in Oregon received the "Letter from Leuthold Dairy Farm on M 66-67" and the smell of an underhanded campaign was quickly sniffed out. The Rogue IMC was one of the first in Oregon to quickly call attention to Leuthold Dairy's twisting of the truth with this story:

So check out FACTS about M 66 & 67 with the following report from Rep. Peter Buckley--above introduction provided by a Rogue Indy volunteer

Letter from Leuthold Dairy Farm and M 66-67
David Delk -- Alliance for Democracy-Portland, 30-11-2009 - 21:07
I just received today's USPS mail and got this letter from Leuthold Dairy Farm and owner Carol Marie Leuthold. A second letter also from Leuthold is addressed to my wife and step-daughter. WOW, they must have really done some outreach. Then I look at my email and get this message from a friend upstate in Oregon who sends out a warning about this mass mailing which has been delivered to my home in Ashland.
The message from David Delk exposes this campaign to hurt Oregon. I'm forwarding important information below for you to see.

Senator Wyden's Townhall in Grants Pass, OR
Allen Hallmark Speaks Truth to Power, 15-11-2009 - 03:54
I attended Ron Wyden's Town Hall in Grants Pass today and it was a far different scene from the one he had in Medford in August. The "tea baggers" didn't show up in any force, although there were plenty of retired military folks and conservatives in the audience that maybe numbered 150 folks. As he did in Medford, Wyden began by honoring a bunch of mostly World War II vets who came in their VFW and American Legion finery.
They handed out tickets to those who wanted to speak and lo and behold, mine was the first one selected. So, I said something to this effect:

Kudos to our source in Washington D.C. for pointing out a little-noticed news item in The Washington Post some time back indicating there was an FBI probe when a purported associate of Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) allegedly stalked Rep. Lee Terry (R-Neb.). The news apparently never made it into the Chicago papers. Hmm. We wonder why the papers here are so timid about this hot story?
