“Crude: The Real Price of Oil”

JCPG, 14-03-2010 - 05:02

The Jackson County Pacific Greens will present a showing of the documentary film, “Crude: The Real Price of Oil” on Sunday, March 21st at 7PM at the Ashland Library. There will be a social hour beginning at 6pm.

Filmmaker Joe Berlinger’s provocative film explores the battle waged by 30,000 indigenous Ecuadorians against Chevron for dumping billions of gallons of toxic waste into the Amazon, what some have called the “Amazon Chernobyl!"

"Crude" is a real-life high stakes legal drama, set against a backdrop of the environmental movement, global politics, celebrity activism, the media, multi-national corporations, and rapidly disappearing indigenous cultures.

While the environmental impact of the consumption of fossil fuels has been documented for years, this film focuses on the human costs of our addiction to oil and the increasingly difficult task of holding corporations accountable for their past deeds.

NV; Court Rules Against SNWA Water Grab

Chance of Rain, LV Citylife, 06-03-2010 - 17:16

Recent articles discuss the ruling by Nevada Supreme Court Judge Robinson that prevents another potential water grab by the SNWA and their developer funders. Additional research reveals the intent of the SNWA pipeline from northern aquifers would benefit the developer of Coyote Springs, one Harvey Whittemore. The urban residents of Las Vegas would cover the bill of SNWA's misadventures in sheep ranching, pipeline lawsuits and other related issues for the benefit of some far out developer's scheme.

2/25 - Congress: NO 3X Nuclear Loan Program!

NO Safe Place for Nuclear Waste!!, 24-02-2010 - 23:58

Pres. Obama's energy plan includes tripling the loan guarantee program to build several new nuclear reactors to the amount of 54 billion dollars. All that extra money taxpayers have falling out of their pockets can now be used to prop up the nuclear industry instead of researching truly green energy sources like wind, solar, etc..., More of the same, or did someone say change?

UT; (1/26) Stop EnergySolution's DU Imports!

NO DU in UT!, 23-01-2010 - 21:58

EnergySolutions already has imported railcars filled with depleted uranium that they plan to bury at undisclosed locations in the Western Salt Lake desert. For extra time before burial, environmentalists are asking the UT Dept. of Environmental Quality to support new rules that would prevent DU burials in state until (unbiased) public health studies and further research into groundwater, hydrological and geological process near burial sites can be deemed "safe".

Take Action Now to Stop the LNG Bill

Cascadian, 08-01-2010 - 13:58

Take Action Now to Stop the LNG Fast Track Bill!
Work Session for "LC 85" Scheduled for Next Week

In the last Oregon legislative session we worked hard to successfully defeat House Bill 3058, the LNG Fast-track bill. That bill that would have undermined property rights and threatened natural resources by allowing pipeline and utility companies to get permits to fill wetlands on private lands without landowner permission, thereby hastening the permitting process for LNG-related pipelines. Now, Senator Metsger is proposing the same bill for the February Special Session and we need to tell our elected leaders that this is not acceptable!

Tell Sen. Wyden in Ashland; NO LNG!

NO LNG in OR!!, 07-01-2010 - 01:59

Sen. Wyden will be visiting Ashland this Thursday morning for town hall meeting with options for public comment. It would be great if people were there to tell Sen. Wyden to put pressure on FERC to show verifiable proof of an actual need for an LNG terminal and accompanying pipeline that justifies condemnation of private property under eminant domain. So far FERC has not done their job by enabling Fort Chicago corporation to proceed along their path unrestricted without any oversight.

Time for Senator Wyden to be a Fair Trader...

STOP DESTROYING THE WORKING CLASS, 02-01-2010 - 20:59

Support The TRADE Act! Senator Ron Wyden gets very high marks for much of his work. However for Trade Issues his grade is a big fat F! His support of corporate America at the expense of workers has led to the loss of living wage jobs for Oregonians which in turn has destroyed families and put strains on communities from Astoria to Lakeview and from Pendleton to Brookings. Profit over People hurts us deeply.

Senator Wyden: STOP supporting greedy corporations. START supporting working people. NOW is the time to turn the economy around. We need FAIR trade not FREE trade. Stop following Senator Gordon Smith, he is gone, we sent him packing... Follow the good lead of Smith's replacement and join Senator Jeff Merkley's positive stand for Oregon.

Senator Ron Wyden: NOW is the TIME to support "THE TRADE ACT"
